Welcome to

Sonia Wilding Counselling

A confidential space to explore the thoughts, feelings and challenges in your life

“When someone really hears you without passing judgement on you, without trying to take responsibility for you without trying to mold you, it feels damn good.” — Carl R. Rogers (1980)

Hi I am Sonia. Welcome and thank you for taking the time to look at my website.

People often come to me feeling overwhelmed, numb fearful and unable to find the words to describe what they are experiencing. Sometimes they are deeply distressed and unable to cope with their life and /or relationships. As a counsellor I help clients to explore their difficult thoughts, feelings and sensations.

I am an Integrative Counsellor which put simply means that I am able to adapt my practice to suit your need. My approach is kind and gentle. I integrate concepts from four approaches: Person-Centred, Gestalt, Transpersonal and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I am really aware for those of you who are not therapists this may sound like jargon. In short, working with this approach and a model that suggests that in order to attain well being the four aspects of self - mind, body, soul and emotions require connection enables me to find a way of working that suits each client.

So how can I help you?

I can offer a calm, confidential space in which you can share your thoughts and feelings. My clients have expressed that truly feeling heard, sometimes for the first time, is life-changing. It maybe that as you are reading this you feel unable to speak the words. It is my role as a counsellor to help you to express what you are feeling and thinking, whether that be through words, visualization, art or mindfulness techniques such as noticing.

Often when I meet clients for the first time they express that they have no idea what it is that they need they just know that “something does not feel right”. They tell me that they are feeling stuck and cannot see the way forward. Clients often present with feelings, thoughts and behaviours that prevent them from living the life that they wish . I can work with you to provide those feelings and thoughts with a voice and to assist you in gaining some clarity. I have been told by many clients that this has them to feel empowered and to regain control of their lives.

Specialism

I have specialist experience of working with clients who present with anxiety and depression. I have enabled many clients to free themselves from the fear that prevents them from living the life that they wish for. I have experience of working with clients who have been diagnosed with invisible disabilities such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/M.E and Fibromyalgia.

Experience

My experience working in GP practices in Plymouth and in my own private practice has enabled me to develop an interest in working with clients who present with complex trauma. I work in a way that enables clients to understand, process and manage their trauma related symptoms.

Open, honest space

I know it can feel really hard to pick up a phone to a stranger and tell them that you need to talk about your personal thoughts and feelings. Please do not be scared. I work in a very gentle, open, honest way and will not judge you.
